1/9/22 - At the end of the Fall 2022 Quarter I had come up with a project idea for my Studio I class that centered around the effects of parental substance abuse in children. The theme I'm going for is how drugs can change the face of someone you know and love. I had worked pretty hard on a concept video (AKA previs) at the end of last year, just to get a rough sense of how I want to go about filming and editing it. Still working on a title... for now, we'll call it Mom-ster.
1/11/22 - Shot list completed. Actresses found.... The actresses I found hopped onto the project pretty quickly and seem excited to be apart of it (me too)! Maddy Winebrenner will play the daughter, and the Momster will be played by professor Robyn-Ann Potanin.
1/17/22 - Ordering camera and lights this week, hoping to film at the end when everyone's schedules line up. So far I've scrounged up a few 2D After Effects Tutorials to assist me with the Momster effect when she turns around.

POTENTIAL ENDING THEMEs... look for a cover?
1/18/22 - Equipment checkout was a go- I'll be getting my cameras and setup on Thursday after class and dropping it off at the shooting location. It's looking like I'm going to have to split up my filming dates since the weekend is spotty for the talent. Friday & Saturday are looking promising, though. Waiting for more communication!
1/24/22 - FILMING COMPLETED. I have a rough edit below to help get a sense of pacing and cuts, although I might make it tighter in the following days. Among the noise, color, and comp fixes required to touch this up, I also need a sound design friend to phone once the edit is all locked in. Pretty happy with how the shots turned out, though-- and very thankful for all the help on set!
AND SOME AWESOME BTS SHOT BY MY FRIEND TAN!
1/26/23 - I went ahead and started attempting to color correct the plates and put them into two contact sheets to asses how well they blend together. I'll do a much more in-depth contact sheet soon with each shot's first and last frame, but for now I think I'm nearing a place I enjoy. I'll wait for further feedback from the peeps in class, though.
1/31/23 - Per the professor's request, I shaved off some more of the video for the tighter edit and made a new rough cut. Still messing with the color, I'm going to go back in and fight against these exposures.
2/2/23 - I'm testing out title fonts. Not 100% loving the two I have picked out so I might snoop around on some free websites for a font I like.
I also tweaked the exposure and color a bit more for these last few versions.
The first font is called Perpetua Tilting MT:
Corbel:
Canto:
2/7/23 - Decided to go with the Canto font on the title shot in front of the house... and no, I haven't started the sky replacement on that one. I got way too excited AND distracted working on shot 6. I've been messing around in Nuke with different distortion nodes and like the way the LensDistortion is keyable. Thanks to all the interesting sliders, I was able to make it so that Maddy (the daughter) looks like shes shrinking in the archway as the shot progresses.
Here's the updated edit as a whole. I think I'm going to get in touch with a colleague and classmate of mine to help set up a meeting with a potential sound design team so that I can pitch the project to them. I don't think I'll be making any more changes to the edit, so now's a good time to get some folks on board to bring this short to life.
2/9/23 - Made the distortion on 0060 WAAYYYYY more intense, as well as made a paint patch for scene 0050 to cover the rig in the shot. Might want to clean it up again later but for now it's invisible! Next up is comping out the red recording light in shot 0030...
2/20/23 - Finished the sky replacement for the first shot (for now, might go back to tweak the key later on). I also stabilized shot 2 and zoomed in a bit since the stabilization made the plate shift all over... I was going to upload a video to show, but I'm all out of storage space on my website. Whoops!
